Why Hire a Birth Doula?

Doulas play a vital role in supporting individuals during childbirth for various reasons. Their presence can have a positive impact on the birthing experience and outcomes. We aim to provide intentional support so you can have an empowered birth!

Here are a few key ways doulas can impact your birth:

1. Emotional Support: Doulas provide continuous emotional support to laboring individuals and their partners. This support includes reassurance, encouragement, and a calming presence, which can help reduce anxiety and stress during labor.

2. Advocacy: Doulas can help individuals advocate for their birthing preferences and communicate with healthcare providers. They ensure that the birthing person's voice is heard and their choices are respected. We are not your advocate, but rather empower you and your partner during birth to advocate for yourself and your needs and wishes! We provide a listening ear and sounding board to help you ask the right questions to receive the care you need from your medical team.

3. Information and Education: Doulas offer evidence-based information and education about labor and birth options, which empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their care. Our prenatal meetings are heavily focused on making sure you are empowered with information and tools for your birth!

4. Comfort Measures: Doulas are trained in various comfort techniques, such as massage, positioning, and breathing exercises, to help manage pain and discomfort during labor. We even offer TENS Unit support during labor! We are there to help you and your partner utilize these tools and we will jump in to help when you need it and want it!

5. Continuous Support: Unlike healthcare providers who may come and go, doulas provide continuous support throughout labor, regardless of the duration, enhancing the birthing experience. We don’t have time limits to how long we support you during your labor - we are here for you as long as you need!

6. Reduced Interventions: Studies have shown that the presence of a doula can lead to a lower likelihood of medical interventions, including the use of pain medications, epidurals, and cesarean sections.

7. Shorter Labor: Some research suggests that having a doula can lead to shorter labor, possibly due to reduced stress and anxiety during childbirth. Ensuring you feel safe and calm can help your labor move smoothly along.

8. Improved Birth Satisfaction: Doulas contribute to a more positive birth experience by fostering a sense of control and reducing fear and anxiety.

9. Support for Partners: Doulas also support birth partners, helping them navigate the labor process and share the emotional load. We never replace your primary birth support! We are here to support you both in doing what you do best - we support you to focus on childbirth and empower your birth partner to support you best! From there, we fill in the gaps!

10. Postpartum Support: Doulas often offer postpartum support as well, helping with breastfeeding, infant care, and emotional well-being during the postpartum period. We offer postpartum visits designed to support you however you need!
